OKEDEJAPAH TRAUMA VICTIMS INITIATIVE
OKEDEJAPAH TRAUMA VICTIMS INITIATIVE
Founded in 2021, O-Trauma Victims Initiative (OTVI) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to helping individuals and communities navigate the aftermath of trauma, particularly in the context of violent conflict, armed groups, kidnapping, rape, child abuse, and natural disasters like floods. We provide trauma healing support, resources, and advocacy for trauma victims, aiming to foster healing, resilience, and long-term recovery.
OTVI adopts a multi-faceted approach to trauma support by offering direct support services such as counselling, therapy, and practical assistance to trauma victims. The organization focuses on community engagement to raise awareness about trauma and its effects, building robust support networks. Additionally, OTVI works on advocacy and policy influence to shape policies and legislation that support trauma victims.
Through research and education, OTVI aims to better understand trauma and disseminate knowledge to improve support services. We also emphasize partnerships and collaboration with other organizations, healthcare providers, and stakeholders to enhance the comprehensive support available to trauma victims.
"Our vision is a society where all trauma victims have access to comprehensive care and unwavering support, empowering them to heal and thrive."
"Our mission is to provide trauma victims with holistic care that addresses their physical, emotional, and psychological needs. We advocate for actions and policies that foster healing, resilience, and empowerment, ensuring trauma victims can rebuild their lives within a supportive community."
We study the impact of rehabilitative care on the well-being of trauma survivors. By conducting thorough baseline evaluations and continuous monitoring, we ensure the effectiveness of our efforts is carefully documented as knowledge products. These products are used to drive our advocacies that help shape actions and policies and advance a collective understanding of evidence-based trauma healing programmes.
Our social work team provides practical and emotional support, advocating for the needs of victims (housing, food, medical care, and education) by linking them to other support services that can help them take control of their recovery. This holistic approach addresses the immediate and long-term needs of trauma survivors, helping them heal and rebuild their lives.
Our advocacy approach involves using social media and multimedia tools to amplify the voices of those whose abuse of human rights led to their trauma. This includes collaborating with human rights defenders to promote social justice for trauma victims and informing policy makers on best practices for supporting survivors and upholding human rights. We aim to, through this, create a systemic change that benefits trauma survivors in society.
We assist trauma survivors in their healing journey through specialized programming and professional care, including mental health counseling, group therapy, and social work services.
Our core approach begins with mental health support, aiding survivors in healing, recovery, and symptom management. Mental health care is essential in emergencies and for long-term recovery, which is why we advocate for and deliver these services to those with different traumas.
Through group therapy, we provide a supportive, validating environment where they can connect with others, learn coping strategies, and feel empowered on their healing journey.
Our capacity-building approach involves training individuals, communities, and organizations on best practices to provide effective care for trauma survivors. This would enable them to understand and implement trauma-informed, culturally responsive care, enhancing their ability to support survivors. Programming around our capacity building ensures continuity of support over the long term, strengthening the overall care network available to trauma survivors.
